Cause of the month:Erkuti

December 2018

“Love your neighbour as yourself” “ואהבת לרעך כמוך”

One of the oldest values in Judaism. Such a powerful directive… and so difficult to live by. And once in a while, you come across people and organizations that do it. And do it so well. With humbleness and kindness that truly warms the heart and inspire you to be a better person.

Our cause of the monthErkuti is one of the best examples for a genuine act of kindness and expectance that one can encounter

Erkuti is the one of Israel’s leading social consumerism store chains and part of the Shekulo Tov Network. Erkuti seeks to enhance job skills for people with psychiatric disabilities in a natural environment and at the heart of the Israeli experience.  Erkuti’s mission is also to provide opportunities for people to get to know people with psychiatric disabilities in a positive and productive context. For people to meet and get to know them, striving to minimize prejudice and ignorance.

Erkuti believes in customizing the system to the person and not the person to the system. They see each person as a world within itself and respects and honors each man and woman. Shekulo Tov runs various rehabilitative employment frameworks that serve as a training and practicing basis for different kinds of support, focusing mainly on promoting communication skills and interpersonal relations through different functions in the retail world. All the products are manufactured in the plants.

Erkuti has over 60 sales counters across Israel, 10 regional offices and two stores, located in Israel’s leading malls and shopping centers.

Erkuti caters for 750 people coping with mental issues who are in a rehabilitating process of transition to the free employment market.

Erkuti’s Goal is to support people with psychiatric disabilities to acquire the essential communication skills necessary for them to be able to function and transition successfully from a protected rehabilitative employment framework to the outside world of employment.

For them to be able to fit in, to be independent. Have a sense of pride and dignity. Of self-value and achievement. That every human being is entitled to.

Erkuti’s humbleness and quite work, not be known to all, captured our hearts. Doing good, for an important cause, without seeking the glory and fame. That is true kindness. And  we support that wholeheartedly

Shekulo Tov Group was founded in 2005 with the vision to allow people with psychiatric disabilities to be in the community, to pursue their journeys, to reach their functional goals, to be included in society, and to live independently. Since true community integration and social inclusion depend upon having opportunities available in the mainstream society outside of the mental health system, Shekulo Tov develops and provides state-of-the-art vocational, supported employment and leisure and recreation psychiatric services in the community. Proving these services assist persons with psychiatric disabilities to realize their potential and to achieve their life goals while decreasing mental illness stigma and promote their social inclusion in their communities.
